VFR Steps

There will be 4 progress checks during VFR Phase of the training.

1

Check 1

The student must perform minimum 3 circuits, where the student must prove they is able to land safely. Safely approach and flaring are critical.
If the student passes, they will be able to perform solo flights in traffic circuit.
2

Check 2

In that check there are two main parts: orientation and safety exercises.
The student must prove to be able to go outside the CTR and to come back, and also to have chances of survival in case of emergency.
If the check is passed, the student will be able to fly into the training areas in solo flights.
3

Check 3

The check is about navigation and management of the radio communications.
The student must prove he can go to another aerodrome and coming back.
After the check, the student will be able to fly to other airports in solo flights.
4

Check 4

During the last check the student is the only pilot. During check 4, the checker is like a costumer, and all decisions must be taken by the student. In another words, the student must prove he is able to work as Commercial pilot in a VFR operation.
The flight is into two different controlled airports.

Day VFR Phase finishes with Check 4
5

Night VFR

Night VFR planning is not like during the day. It has neither check flights nor solo flights. Getting into D airspace with coordination with the TMA is allowed and even recommended as it will make you fly higher and even have you on flight following by the ATC. Departure, Arrival, Alternate and enroute weather must be really good. No risks or compromises at night. Night VFR syllabus is composed of 3:00h Dual, 1:20h SPIC and 00:40h Solo. Usually scheduled 2:30h at one night and the other 2:30 at another night.

After the training is completed, endorsement: “Approved for solo night VFR flights"
